H2020 SME Instrument Phase 1Virtual Reality-Based High-Fidelity Flight Simulation for Pilot Training
AEROTIM is a Horizon 2020 Phase 1 SME Instrument project (Grant Agreement No. 808892), designed and written by MATICAL for the Turkish aerospace company Aerotim Engineering. The project aimed to develop a new class of VR-based flight simulators for the training of both military (combat) and commercial pilots, integrating high-fidelity (HI-FI) flight models to ensure realistic and accurate training environments.
Unlike conventional simulators, AEROTIM combines immersive virtual reality with precise aerodynamic modeling to reduce simulator costs and increase accessibility without compromising performance. The system is intended to support both initial and recurrent pilot training, with potential applications in civil aviation academies, air forces, and aerospace OEMs.
The Phase 1 project focused on assessing technical feasibility, validating the innovation through pilot end-user feedback, and refining the go-to-market strategy.
